"Sin." The word causes us to hold our breath and say, "Who me?" Actually when we come to this question, we have come to the most pivotal point in our life. It is a place that God has said we will all come to. It is what we do when we come to this place that will determine the rest of our life and eternity. As we struggle to admit we are not a perfect person, we are humbled and and answer is required. I answered this question in 1991. Here we are again. The plans in place and we anticipate gathering with friends and family. Or maybe we feel led to do for others who may be less fortunate than ourselves this year by serving at a free Thanksgiving gathering. Whatever our plans may be, the focus on this day is thankfulness. As we gather around the dinner table, bow our heads in prayer, the list of those things we are thankful for roll off our tongue with ease. Yes, we find it easy to thank Him for our food, home and family. But this word “thankful” really means that we give thanks to God for everything that we receive at His hand. Our eyes delight to see those trees in autumn which turn glorious colors, then drop their leaves one by one. But there are certain trees that hold their leaves until spring. They wither and turn brown, but they don't drop. Not until spring do these trees lose their leaves-when the new leaves push out the old leaves. That's exactly what happens to our old habits and our old lives when we find the Lord Jesus. The new life pushes that old life off. We are born-again in new life through Christ. Talk about giving "thanks!" After we are cleansed of sin, born again, our new life emerges as we grow closer to Christ through His Word and in quiet, focusing prayer. --Jo You and God, together. No one can speak to God "for" you, and He patiently waits for time alone. Is there anything more important than getting alone with the One who knows your every need? Find your quiet place, free from distractions and sit quietly. Bring your pen and a journal. Why? Write your thoughts and prayer requests down and date your writing. You will see why in time. |
