Day after day the heartbreaking news keeps coming and coming. The friend who has cancer, the husband who left his wife and kids, the mother who wonders why her daughter left home, the brother who lost his job due to addiction. The stories are tragic, and yet you have your own. So who do you confide in, where do you go for help when all the stress and struggles seem to erase all signs of your faith and rob you of every ounce of joy and peace? Well the Book of Psalms may be where you need to go and where you can find comfort. Psalm 43:11 "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. " In this Psalm, David admits/confesses to God that he is depressed and cast down. Then he boldly declares he will hope in God. He knows where his hope is to be found and despite that "low, sinking feeling" within him, he will hope in God! Examine what this verse is saying to us. Have hope! Someone said to me once, "Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey towards it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us." Praise God! Think about the power and the love that are found in Him. No matter how far down that sinking feeling takes you, “there is lifting up!” No matter how deep you feel you are sinking, God will not allow you to be utterly cast down. Here is one of my favorite Psalms to go to when I have that sinking feeling. Psalm 103: 1-5 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgives all my iniquities; who heals all my diseases; Who redeems my life from destruction; who crowns me with loving-kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfies my mouth with good things; so that my youth is renewed like the eagle's. (KJV) Then there is better news. Our Father is the God of mercy and compassion. He knows what you are going through. He cares for us with an everlasting love and He is the God of all comfort. So need some "lifting up?" Go to God. He will pour out His comfort on you. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

I love this post about the Love of God and loss- I published a book on this subject. It began as an email Bible Study among friends who had suffered loss...it continued for 4 years; then after much prayer and encouragement it was published in 2012, to this day I am surprised that I still get a royalty check from time to time, but I believe the losses in our lives are very much like grief, and the need for solace continues on...again thank you! Your blog is inspiring. Comments are closed.
