Got your coffee?   OK. Read on...

The CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. The virus has now been detected in over 50 countries, including the United States.

Symptoms are flu-like, with cough, fever, shortness of breath and sneezing. If you are having questionable symptoms in addition to the ones mentioned, please contact your primary care provider.

Transmission is spread by droplets from coughing or sneezing, making it highly contagious. Currently, there is no cure, however scientists are studying the use of some existing antivirals.

Overall, the coronavirus strikes parallel to the flu, but not as powerful or deadly.

Time and hydration are your best friends. (Rest & fluids)

“This looks to be a bad, heightened cold — I think that’s a rational way of thinking about it,” said Matthew Frieman, a virologist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “Not to diminish its importance — it’s in the middle between SARS and the common cold.” SARS was successfully treated with Chinese medicine previously, but updates on treatment of Coronavirus are still being studied.

Suggested Natural Treatment:

Like most viruses, treatment is usually rest, fluids and electrolytes.
This is no different for our new friend COVID-19. However, given what we know about immunity and integrative medicine, there are many tools that we can use to boost the immune system.

  • 1. Vitamin D; optimizing your levels can help naturally boost your immune system; 5,000 iu daily
  • 2. Vitamin C oral; 2000 - 3000 mg daily; vitamin C has many anti-viral properties
  • 3. Hydration and Intravenous therapies; we offer many immune boosting IVs
  • 4. Address the GI tract; probiotics and gut healing; much of our immune system starts in the gut, therefore it is important to heal the gut, via immunoglobulins and glutamine
  • 5. Elderberry; Elderberry has been shown to naturally boost antiviral cells in the body
  • 6. Homeopathic Gelsemium
  • 7. Magnesium: 400 mg daily (in citrate, malate, chelate, or chloride form)
  • 8. Zinc: 20 mg daily
  • 9. Selenium: 100 mcg (micrograms) daily Vitamin C

[1], Vitamin D [2], magnesium [3], zinc [4], and selenium [5] have been shown to strengthen the immune system against viruses. The basis for using high doses of vitamin C to prevent and combat virus-caused illness may be traced back to vitamin C's early success against polio, first reported in the late 1940s.
[6] Many people are unaware, even surprised, to learn this. Further clinical evidence built up over the decades, leading to an anti-virus protocol published in 1980.
[7] It is important to remember that preventing and treating respiratory infections with large amounts of vitamin C is well established. Those who believe that vitamin C generally has merit, but massive doses are ineffective or somehow harmful, will do well to read the original papers for themselves. To dismiss the work of these doctors simply because they had success so long ago sidesteps a more important question: Why has the benefit of their clinical experience not been presented to the public by responsible governmental authorities, especially in the face of a viral pandemic?

Additional travel recommendations:
  • 1. Avoid sugar, processed foods, and alcohol, which can suppress the immune system
  • 2. Stay hydrated, especially with electrolytes in water
  • 3. Wash hands, especially in public areas like airport bathrooms and touch screens
  • 4. Utilize air flow vents on plane to help circulate air, to prevent stagnant air
  • 5. Wear a breathable mask on the plane
  • 6. Make sure to get your ZZZs, sleep/rest is extremely important for your immune system

Additional recommendations from the CDC " If you suspect or are around someone with  COVID19:
  • 1. Stay home except to get medical care
  • 2. Call ahead before visiting your doctor
  • 3. Wear a face mask
  • 4. Cover your coughs and sneezes
  • 5. Avoid sharing personal household items with family members
  • 6. Wash your hands often and sanitize surfaces around home
  • 7. Monitor your symptoms, and seek immediate attention if you have difficulty breathing

Relax, take precautions, take care of yourself...stay well.
