3 Ways to Stand Firm in
Your Faith Through College

College. For many, it’s a time of learning, exploring, and growing. As a young woman considering attending college, you’re probably excited of visions for the future.

But what about your faith?

Yes, what about your faith?
How can you grow educationally, personally, and spiritually,
when
70% of young adults
drop out of the church?

Between the stress of making new friends and managing a demanding work load, how can a girl stand firm in her faith without becoming another statistic?

Here are "3" Vital Ways to Stand Firm

Connect with a Church
Whether you’re staying in your hometown or going away for college, it’s important to get plugged into a church. Although you don’t need to go to church to be a Christian, it sure is hard to live a Christian lifestyle when you lack a community that has your back.

It’s important to be rooted in community, where people can support you both spiritually and emotionally. Attending church consistently also provides opportunities to serve and give back to the body of Christ.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV)

Join a College Group

My former youth pastor once said, “show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” The people we choose to spend time with influence us in more ways than we can imagine. Unless you’re attending a Christian college, finding friends on campus who share your faith can be a challenge—especially if you’re away from home.
Find a college ministry that meets regularly, studies the Word, and engages with the surrounding community. Building friendships with other Christian women and sharing life together is awesome! Because let’s face it, the college struggle is real.
Joining a college group helps you develop long-lasting friendships that can build you up spiritually, rather than tearing you down.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12 NIV)

Become Rooted in Prayer and Scripture Reading

Christian growth is a lot like exercise—you have to do it consistently to see results. I personally groan at the thought of exercising, but working out your spiritual muscles is a lot more fun.
In order to keep growing in your faith through college, it’s crucial to pray and read the Bible every day. Seriously. If there’s only one thing you remember from this post, make sure it’s this.
Without daily time in scripture and prayer, it’s easy to become saturated by the culture around you. In order to build a strong connection with Jesus and solidify your faith, you need to be consistent.
In college, professors and other students will challenge your faith with new philosophies and beliefs. It’s important that you keep yourself rooted in Christ in order to not be shaken when these beliefs are presented.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:12 NIV)
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105 NIV)
