Following  a  path

                                                                   toward natural wellness.

Faith, Food & Farewell to feeling unhealthy...

Yup, that's me kissing a pig.

We were in St. Louis visiting my daughter and my favorite son-in-law, (he's the only one).  One evening, Craig asked us to join them for a meal at his favorite restaurant -for  barbecued pork.

Now, not that I have anything against eating pork, I love it - but it does not like me!  So I gave the pig a kiss, and told him, "Sorry, no thanks."

People who know me, understand what I went through to regain my health after a head-on collision left me with over 13 different physical problems.  It was 4+ years of pain and health issues - but God brought me through it and I learned so much from my journey...so I will share.

Hey, none of us are perfect women, we know that.
Yet, in His eye,s as His child, I am a perfect "10."
I am forgiven, saved and made brand new as a woman of faith.

Many wish that along with that came perfect health, but it does not.  Jesus clearly states, "These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

No matter what your physical problem may be, weight, hormones, thyroid, cardiac, age-related, abuse, physical pain, depression...it is only through Christ that we can find peace.  This verse I repeated over and over to myself each day for four years.

In 2005, I was diagnosed with:
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neck pain/Thyroid issues
  • Back pain/Sciatica
  • Bursitis
  • Adrenal burnout/Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Rib injury
  • Foot trauma and the best of all burdens, heart palpitations

Before any of us that are suffering can move on to physical healing, we must come to see that we need to be healed & filled spiritually first.

For Christ to work "in" our lives, He first needs to live "within us."
If you have not asked Jesus to cleanse your past, give Him your present and trust Him for your future.... my dear friend, you must.   Then and only then can you go to Him in prayer and ask for His wisdom and guidance as you lean on His strength in your walk of suffering.

No matter what condition you may find yourself in with your suffering -
Christ will reach down deeper than your lowest depths.

Is it physical pain you are dealing with?
Christ will enable you to bear what is required of you.

Is it emotional suffering, anxiety, stress, depression?
No matter what the suffering is, we must first find our peace and comfort in Christ.

The physician I worked for at the time of my accident was compassionate enough to give me two back injections for pain right after we arrived home from the hospital in Georgia.
Barely able to walk, he knew I needed to care for a husband that could not walk. Each specialist I saw said the same thing,  "Here take this medication and learn to live with it."

After one month I had about 6 prescriptions that I was to take and a depressing future seemed to be straight ahead.

Emotionally I was a wreck.  Exhausted, thyroid swelling from emotional upheaval of accident, no sleep, constant pain, financial stress and adrenal burnout.  I would go into the bathroom, turn on the shower and cry.  There, my husband could not hear my sobs.

wanted to get to the cause, treat the cause and relieve the symptoms, not treat the symptoms and never address the cause. This is how I came to my crossroads moment.   It was the Lord Who needed to give me wisdom and show me the right path.   His path for me.

I realized that it was God who I needed to consult...

No matter what health issue you may be struggling with, there is only One way to get clear guidance and wisdom, and that is to release it to God.  When you come to the crossroad, put down the baggage you are carrying and say,
"Lord, I am sorry, I have been a foolish child, I cannot do this without You showing me the way.  I need Your strength to get through this.  I need Your wisdom to guide me to the answers I seek.  Help me Lord, show me."

Over time I began to see that being filled spiritually is what allowed me to deal with all my physical issues and to take one day at a time.   As the month's passed, I was amazed that my trend of thought was NOT that I was suffering daily, but that I was being molded daily.  As my ministry grew He placed women on my path who needed my encouragement to move on with their own physical burdens.

As I asked for His wisdom and read, researched and prayed, I began to uncover a wealth of information that was of great help to me physically.

As I absorbed myself into natural alternatives (I already was using my  essential oils to help relieve my inflammation and most of my pain), I began to see how all the pieces fit together.

The body needed certain foods and nutrients to heal itself.
"Let the plant be your medicine."   The words of God Himself.

Amazingly, God placed a godly physician on my path who prayed with me at my visits and began using alternative treatment and therapy to help my body heal.  I had genuine brother's and sister's in Christ praying for me (this is vital).

He was indeed moving me slowly forward.

Let's look at the "5" things I have listed below that brought me to my place of peace.

  • #1  -  Prayer for wisdom.  Prayer for His guidance.  Prayer to go in His strength.  Ask genuine people of prayer to cry out to God for your healing!
Faith-filled FRIENDS are vital in your life.

  • #2 - Giving the body what it needs to heal was first on the agenda.  An anti-inflammatory diet must be followed.
  • No sugar
  • No flour
  • No gluten
  • No red meat
  • No pork

  • #3 - Lots of herbs.  Anti-inflammatory and fungal fighting herbs:
  • Rosemary, oregano, tumeric, garlic
  • Plenty of alkaline water (lots!)

  • Supplements:  Tumeric,
Vitamin D3/Magnesium Taurate and
Magnesium Citrate

  • #4 - Essential oil's daily :   lavender, peppermint, Frankencense/Myrrh

  • #5 - Massage therapy & Acupunture

It is amazing how God created our body to function and begin to heal  with the "proper" food.

Begin with  "#1"  on my list.

There is no better place
to be than in
HIS hands.

Jo, Thanks for sharing this post, and reminding me of the food info. I love your blog, and need to slow down to catch up on it more. As I read it, it reminded me of all that my Faith in God, and a healthy diet, has literally, healed me from over the past 20 yrs (Thyroid Cancer, Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, Lung, and Kidney failure, Asthma, Allergies, Migraines, Fatigue, pain so severe, that at times I couldn't shake any ones hand, sensitivity to smells, that put me in the hospital, and the list goes on, and on).
I fell on hard times financially, more than once, and wasn't always able to eat as healthy as needed. But, I was always, always, able to Pray, and stay focused on God, and his plans for me. And that, has my life, once again, back on the right track. So, thank you! By Gods Grace Thank You! And I Pray that you have a Blessed and Prosperous Day!

Hello my friend! Another testimony for the miraculous body & the intricacy of His Creation. So happy to read your comment and let other's share in your testimony. I too find myself watching $$ and often go off course, but then when I see symptoms flare, I do all I can to stay on course and tighten the budget elsewhere so I can continue giving my body what it needs. Stay in touch! JO Wilmer

Thank you for your inspiring and informative posts! I put a copy of your anti-inflammatory diet on my refrigerator so I would be reminded to make healthy choices.

Hi Jan! Oh I pray that it will help you as it did me. "Lord, please guide Jan to do what she needs to do to help her body heal."

I'd like to mention that the 1st thing I do in the morning is walk in the kitchen, fill a glass with room temp water and squeeze some fresh lemon juice in it. I drink it on an empty stomach before eating or drinking anything else.

It is an excellent way to help flush/detox the body, helps the liver and the lemon alkalinizes the body. Take care!
