What did we ever do without them?   


​Heavens, we cannot leave home or seem to put them down.   
Children are glued to them unless wise parents pry them out of their hands and place a book in its place.  A book? You want me to read?  "What do I do with this?" ​


Cell phones - they have caused a social problem that I believe is not conducive to interpersonal communication and social circle skills.   The face to face interaction is removed.  The ability to  interact in person has been greatly diminished which sets people up for serious relationship issues.

Cell phones - there is an addiction to the point of panic if one is not in reach.  There is no turning back,  they are here to stay but there must be guidelines  and caution, serious caution. 

So just WHAT are the HEALTH CONCERNS? 

Yes, there are concerns...it cannot be denied. 


Cell phone radiation exposure concern emerges from studies that have hinted at a slightly increased risk for:
  • brain cancer
  • tumors of the acoustic nerve and salivary gland
  • others have suggested lower sperm count and sperm quality in men
  • various effects on learning and memory
  • headaches, and sleep for both sexes

Yes, more research needs to be done and not all experts agree, but the concern is real. 

So what do we do?  

The connection between cell phone radiation and health risk has been debated more recently.   

​YOUR CELL PHONE DOES emit non-ionizing, electromagnetic radiation of the sort that heats food in a microwave oven, but scientists have struggled to conclusively link cellphone use to cancers or other illnesses.

I became concerned when I noticed my wrist and lower arm aching after long cell phone conversations.  I knew that the phone was causing this.  So I began my research.

Adults and children alike, are holding onto and carrying on their body a cell phone for most of the day.   In the evening,  most likely it is within reach of your bed.    This device is SO close to your person most of the 24 hour day.   So YES, you should be concerned. 
​

​So how can you reduce your exposure?
  • Keep your phone away from your body. Keeping your phone just a few feet away from you can make a big difference.
  • When you talk on your cell phone, avoid holding it to your head—use the speakerphone or a headset instead.
  • If you are streaming or if you are downloading or sending large files, try to keep the phone away from your head and body.
  • Carry your cell phone in a backpack, briefcase, or purse; NOT in a pocket, bra or belt holster. Because your phone’s antenna tries to stay connected with a cell tower when ever it’s on, it emits some RF energy even when you are not using it. It does not emit RF energy when it’s in airplane mode. (Airplane mode turns off cellular, Wi-Fi, andBluetooth.)

Reduce or avoid using your cell phone when it is sending out high levels of RF energy.

​This happens mainly when:

• You see only one or two bars displayed. Cell phones put out more RF energy to connect with cell towers when the signal is weak.
• When you are in a fast-moving car, bus, or train, your phone puts out more RF energy to maintain connections to avoid dropping calls as it switches connections from one cell tower to the next unless it is in airplane mode.
• When you are streaming audio or video, or downloading or sending large files. To watch movies or listen to playlists on your phone, download them first, then switch to airplane mode while you watch or listen.
  • Please do not sleep with your phone in your bed or near your head. Unless the phone is off or in airplane mode, keep it at least a few feet away from your bed.

  • Take off the headset when you’re not on a call. Headsets release small amounts of RF energy even when you are not using your phone.

Parents should set a limit on a child's screen time and being on their cell phone along with other devices emitting radiation from electromagnetic fields. 

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) supports more research into just how our cell phone exposure can affect our health long term, particularly the health of a child. 

Cell phone radiation can be dealt with.   Here is how I dealt with it.
