It is every woman's dreaded test. Yet we are encouraged to have it done yearly. I am most assuredly an advocate of self-exam and screening. But before October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) rolls around I would like to give you something to consider.
I'd like to encourage you to take a different view of what YOU can do to for breast health and ways to prevent breast cancer.
Itis only May, but with Mother's Day upon us, I want to draw every womans attention to a decision we all must make. What will we do to protect our breasts? So please read on... Jo Wilmer
There are things you can do as a woman...
We all know about "SELF-EXAMINING" our breasts - preferably in the shower, feeling for lumps and bumps. We all have lumps and bump, but as we routinely examine ourselves, we can pretty much tell what is normal for us and what is not. Having cystic breasts all my life, I know this can be challenging. Myself, I did go to have a few lumps aspirated to rule out any concerns. It was not a pleasant experience but what was the alternative?
HERE IS THE TOPIC I WANT YOU TO CONSIDER...
Rather than focusing ways to prevent breast cancer with mammograms, smashing the breast with a machine and pulling out fluid with a needle, I would rather put the emphasis on examining at the cellular level first. A look deep within.
We know that often a mammogram will find a questionable spot - then on to more boob crushing, prodding, cutting, aspirating or radiating. Many times it turns out to be benign (or nothing to worry about). So why am I going yearly for this mammogram? Only to do unnecessary abuse to the breast.
Now stop and think for a minute before you gasp and shout, "What are you saying, don't get a mammogram?" Physicians are most familiar with the good ol' mammogram, and many still believe that it is the best screening for detecting breast cancer early.
But hello? Is anyone listening? It is not.
I was introduced to Thermography while working for an Integrative Physician ( one who focuses on healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle.
Studies show that a thermogram identifies precancerous or cancerous cells earlier, produces unambiguous results (no additional testing!), and is painless! Hooray!. Now isn't this much better than a mammogram I ask?
Thermographic imaging has the potential to detect a physiological abnormality, often YEARS before conventional testing can. This early detection gives the Physician an opportunity to begin, or change and focus the treatment methods being employed so that the MOST successful treatment can be developed in the BEST interest of the patient. Thermography provides the earliest detection without possible harm to the patient.
Infrared imaging can be thought of as a weather map of the body.
It is a test of physiology, which shows heat (or lack of) emitted from your body.
An image map of these heat patterns is produced by a high speed medical infrared camera which reveals important clues about your health. In breasts, abnormalities are often evident 8-10 years BEFORE a structural exam, such as a mammogram, can currently "see" a mass. Wow!
AND it is not just for breasts. It can be used for:
In researching, I did find a link to for some Thermography centers here.
As always, sit down with your doctor and discuss any health concerns you may have.

TALK TO A DOCTOR
After 18 years working in the health field as a Med/Surg Asst, I have seen many patients visit their doctor seeking answers but leaving with only a script in hand.
