"10" Health Concerns You Need to Know!

Do you know this about sleep...
  1. A good deep sleep can burn more calories than when you toss and turn all night long.  I guess we all should try to get a good nights sleep. Sleep also has an affect on the regulation of the appetite hormones and a full night’s sleep is thought to help the body suppress ghrelin, a hunger hormone, and stimulate leptin, which controls appetite. 
  2. While you sleep, your brain triggers the release of hormones that encourage tissue growth. This can help you recover from injuries or even sore muscles.
  3. ​A good night's sleep can also help your body defend itself. During sleep, you make more white blood cells that attack viruses and bacteria, says Sunita Kumar, MD. Kumar who co-directs the Center for Sleep Disorders at Loyola University Medical Center.   In one study, people who slept at least 8 hours a night were 3 times less likely to come down with a cold than those who got 7 hours or less.
  4. Your blood pressure dips as you snooze and that can be a real heart health benefit. 
  5. Sleeping in a dark room (really dark) does great things for your body's nightly endocrine restoration. 


More essential health info...

  1. Using Tylenol can be VERY rough on your liver.  To put it bluntly, ALL drugs including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, that contain acetaminophen can really be harmful to your liver--- and you NEED to have a healthy liver!  
  2. Taking too much calcium can cause problems you were not expecting.  It can cause bone spurs, clogged arteries, sciatica, and other issues. Just eat a healthy diet and you will get enough calcium  -- you won't need to take a supplement.   I hate those Boniva commercials!   Doesn't Sally Field know this stuff is harmful?   
  3. Read labels!   High fructose corn syrup is everybody's enemy, it damages kidneys.
  4. Most people do not get enough magnesium - Studies suggest that about 50% of people in the US and Europe get less than the recommended daily amount of magnesium   (1, 3).   Magnesium is involved in more than 600 reactions in your body (2).   It is vital to good health!  It keeps those leg cramps away. 
  5. Cholesterol is a money maker for drug companies.  According to research, a healthy cholesterol level starts at 240.  Really!  All this business about a very LOW cholesterol is a money thing. Research for yourself.  My cholesterol is 269 and I have no cholesterol buildup, as testing has shown.   I use olive oil and butter, oh my!
  6. Municipal water departments don't even try to remove medications, such as estrogen from birth control pills, from their water. Your body uses all the med it needs, then sends the rest out in urine--for your later drinking pleasure. Yum! 
  7. Aspartame can damage nerves, even stripping the myelin shield--leading to multiple sclerosis. The U.S. government kept aspartame off the market until a certain politically-well-connected person pushed it through.  Hmmmm? 
  8. Antacids destroy the vitamin B12 your body needs to think, remember, create, and all the other things brains do. 
  9. Vitamin B is a powerhouse of good health. It is said that B1 (thiamin) eases the pain of shingles. Also that B2 (riboflavin) helps you deal with migraine headaches. 
  10. Fluoride can cause your gums to recede. Your dentist may say you're brushing your teeth too vigorously, but it's the fluoride.  I never use fluoride toothpaste, never. 

All too often we leave our health choices in the hands of others, or our physician.  
But to make wise decisions concerning our personal health, we NEED to be informed, research and be prepared to make decisions that are the best for our own well-being. 

So here are a few things that I  hope to pass on that I feel you may need to know.
