Yup, that's me kissing a pig. We were in St. Louis visiting my daughter and favorite son-in-law (he's the only one!), when they decided they wanted to take us to their favorite restaurant to eat barbecued pork. Now, not that I have anything against someone eating pork, but I do not eat pork or red meat for good reason.
So I gave the pig a kiss, and told him, "No thanks."
People who know me, understand what I went through to regain my health after a head-on collision left me with over 13 different physical problems. It was 4+ years of pain and health issues and God brought me through it and I learned so much from my journey...so I will share.
None of us are perfect women, we know that.
Yet, in His eye's as His child, I am a perfect "10." I am forgiven, saved and made brand new as a woman of faith. Many wish that along with that came perfect health, but it does not. Jesus clearly states, "These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
No matter what your physical problem may be, weight, hormones, thyroid, cardiac, age-related, abuse, physical pain, depression...it is only through Christ that we can find peace. This verse I repeated over and over to myself each day for four years.
In 2005, I was diagnosed with:
Before any of us that are suffering can move on to physical healing, we must come to see that we need to be filled spiritually first.
We need Christ to move forward - Christ to fill us, Christ to strengthen us spiritually so we in turn can physically find the strength to walk the road of suffering.
Is it depression you are dealing with? Christ will reach down deeper than your lowest depths.
Is it pain you are dealing with? Christ will enable you to bear what is required of you.
No matter what the physical or emotional suffering is, we must first find our peace and comfort in Christ.
The physician I worked for at the time of my accident was compassionate enough to give me two back injections for pain right after we arrived home from Georgia. He knew I needed to care for a husband that could not walk and I had a pain level of "9" on a scale of 1 to 10. Every specialist I saw said the same thing, "Here take this it may help."
After one month I had about 6 prescriptions I was to take and a depressing future ahead, physically.
Emotionally I was a wreck. Exhausted, thyroid swelling from emotional upheaval of accident, no sleep, constant pain, financial stress and adrenal burnout. I would go into the bathroom, turn on the shower and cry. I wanted to get to the cause, treat the cause and relieve the symptoms, not treat the symptoms and never address the cause. This is how I came to my crossroads moment.
I realized that it was God who I needed to consult...
No matter what health issue you may be struggling with, there is only One way to get clear guidance and wisdom, and that is to release it to God. When you come to the crossroad, put down the baggage you are carrying and say,
"Lord, I am sorry, I have been a foolish child, I cannot do this without You showing me the way. I need Your strength to get through this. I need Your wisdom to guide me to the answers I seek. Help me Lord, show me."
Over time I began to see that being filled spiritually is what allowed me to deal with all my physical issues and to take one day at a time. As the month's passed, I was amazed that my trend of thought was NOT that I was suffering daily, but that I was being molded daily. As my ministry grew He placed women on my path who needed my encouragement to move on with their own physical burdens.
As I absorbed myself into natural alternatives (I already knew about and was using my essential oils to help relieve my inflammation and most of my pain), I began to see how all the pieces fit together. The body needed certain foods and nutrients to heal itself. Amazingly, God placed a physician on my path who prayed with me at my visits and began using alternative treatment and therapy to help my body heal. I had brother's and sister's in Christ praying for me (this is vital). All this along with my new eating habits showed me that He was indeed moving me slowly forward.
Spiritually growing, giving God the reins, following His lead, and being used in showing other's
the way was bringing me to my knee's in daily thankfulness.
You may be able to do just "one" thing on my list to help your body,
but it is one small step toward helping your body get what it needs.
If I forget to take my Vitamin D or Tumeric, I will begin to see signs
of joint and muscle inflammation.
If I eat red meat or pork, the same thing happens.
So yes, I will kiss the pig and say, "No thank you!"
